A few weeks ago, we were fortunate to have our good friend (and loyal blog-follower) Mark come to visit for the weekend. While awaiting his arrival, and Peter's Friday classes to finish, I headed to the Salon de Mer et Vigne (the Seafood and Wine Festival) with friends.
There was much more to see than just seafood and wine, though. I became friends with this gentleman who shares my passion for French Macarons. It turns out he is a macaron vendor who supposedly makes his treats with a recipe from the Middle Ages (which explains their lumpy appearance). We of course had to sample some.
After sampling wines and various food products and more macarons than I care to admit, I headed to Cherche-Midi to meet Mark and Peter. The next day was overcast but not too cold, so we decided to head up to the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in the 19th arrondissement. It's the steepest parc in Paris and is quite old, being inaugurated in 1867. It's made up of several grassy hills, all providing different lovely views of the city, and one final hill complete with a beautiful stone gazebo and a gorgeous view of Sacre Coeur.
On our descent, we discovered a great flea market taking place at the edge of the market. We browsed through for a while before heading home.
At dinnertime, we met up with our HEC friends for...not French food....but burritos! Needless to say, they left something to be desired but it was fun to venture up to rue Mouffetard for the evening!
After our night out, we needed to start our Sunday off right by walking to the Marais to introduce Mark to the famous L'As du Falafel for lunch. We walked by this bizarre (apparently Japanese) store (featured below). If you can believe it, this heart shape is actually the window into the restaurant. We'll have to go back to explore more.
We then checked out the Chinese New Year Parade in the 13th arrondissement before sending Mark off to Charles de Gaulle to head back to the US.
